Opening a new Salon

Tips for opening a new Salon.

Have you just setup your Hairdressing Salon or are looking at opening a new Salon in the near future? We have put together some tips on how to get started along with some links to other helpful articles.

Hairdressing Salons, if managed well, have proved to survive even during tough economic times. It’s important to make sure your business starts off on the right foot to give your new Salon the best chance of success.

When starting a new Salon, there are 3 choices: renting or buying a dedicated space, working from a home salon or offering a mobile service. Whichever you opt for, you'll need to do lots of planning before you pull out your scissors.

In brief, here are your first basic steps:
•  Do your research
•  Decide on your location
•  Get your finances in order and set up a business plan
•  Check for licensing and council regulations
•  Choose your services
•  Purchase equipment
•  Produce a great marketing plan to get you started

We read a great article from Startup Smart which gives you an honest outline of what’s involved in setting up, and running, your own salon. Check it out here.

If you are going to be running your business from home you should take a look at this article from business.gov.au.

For those of you considering providing a mobile service, you can read more here.

 Tips for Success
•  Don’t stop learning. You can never have enough knowledge.
•  Make sure you keep in touch with new practices, products and styles as they become popular
•  Invest in a great salon software system which will ultimately save you time and money
•  Make sure you stay up to date with licensing requirements and changes to small business rules and regulations
•  Undertake a bookkeeping course or choose a great bookkeeper you can trust.
•  Make your salon highly visible. You can achieve this with a good brand which flows through to signage and online platforms.
•  Discover your point of difference (and boast about it). What makes your salon the salon of choice in your area?
•  Connect and network with like-minded entrepreneurs, local business people and industry bodies such as HABA.

Take advantage of Auto Marketing

Take advantage of Auto Marketing

Are you taking advantage of Automated Marketing?

By setting up automated marketing, you are effectively promoting your salon without lifting a finger. Once you setup the messages in the system, your Bright Orange software takes care of the rest.

You can concentrate on what you do best while Bright Orange keeps in contact with your valuable clients.

Listed below are our 3 options for automated marketing.

Birthdays – Never forget a birthday again. Send a personalised message on or before the client’s birthday. Simply choose how many days in advance you would like the message to be sent, create your template and our salon software will take care of the rest.

Non-Returned Clients – Simply select how many days since the client’s last visit and Bright Orange will send out your choice of promotion to the client.

First Visits – Keep in touch with your new clients by sending a message to thank them for visiting the salon. Or maybe a message to rate their visit to the salon. We find most clients are more honest when replying by text, so this tool allows you to grow your business and understand the reasons why customers may or may not return to the Salon

Bright Orange Salon Software also has a 2 way SMS feature which is an essential tool to help you keep on top of appointments and cancellations. Find out more here.

Are you looking for Salon Software?

Are you looking for Salon Software?

Questions to ask before buying your new Software.

Before choosing your Salon Software we highly recommend that you ask the following questions and check the terms and conditions of all products you are comparing.  We have found that some software companies have it included in their T&Cs that, upon cancellation, they may permanently delete all content and data.

1. What happens to my information and data if the software company ceases operation?

2. Am I able to have a copy of my entire database any time I’d like it? And is there a cost?

3. What happens if the Internet is not on or drops out?

4. What happens to my information/database if I decide to cancel the agreement or change to another software provider?

5. If the database has a password, am I able to have the password so that we can access the data?

6. Is there any type of encryption that would stop me from being able to access the data without your software?

7. Does the software company have access to my data?

We don’t like hearing that salon owners are refused access to their own database or that a 3rd party has access to it. As a Salon owner, we believe you should have full control over your valuable database. Some software companies only allow you to export part of your data but at Bright Orange we make sure you have access to all your informaiton including clients contact details, product and purchase history, services and appointments.

Don’t hand over your goodwill and valuable information - it could cost you thousands.

What most people don’t understand is that all of the data is linked. Client information is linked to a service, a product, past and future appointments, number of visits and marketing criteria. So when you only export client contact details you may lose all of the other information that is linked. With Bright Orange your database is installed on your computer so you have access anytime you need it - we cannot access the data without your permission. If Bright Orange Salon Software is not right for your salon then you should be able to take your data and information to another software company and have them convert it, just as we convert theirs to Bright Orange. You also have the option to back up your database to the cloud using our service or simply backup to a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

One last thing to consider: Is there a guarantee of satisfaction with their software? With Bright Orange Salon Software, if you decide you’re not happy with our software you can give 30 days notice via email. And you have complete control over your valuable data as it’s stored on your own hard drive.

Loyalty Points

Loyalty Points

Do you use Customer Loyalty Points in your Salon?

Loyalty Points are a great way to encourage clients to return to the Salon and create return business.

Clients accumulate loyalty points based on dollars spent then redeemed on your choice of products or services.

You have complete control over which services or products the points can be allocated to.

Loyalty Points can also be offered in marketing campaigns. For example, if you have a particular day in the Salon which is quieter than others, you might like to offer bonus points to clients who make appointments on that day. There are lots of promotions you can offer using Loyalty Points and keep your clients returning to your Salon!
